Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstrations in Milan, Italy on Thursday, June 9, 2016

The Italian State Police have advised that on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be a large demonstration in Milan sponsored by the several employee unions.

The demonstration march will use the following route: Porta VeneziaCorso Venezia – Via Senato – Piazza Cavour – Via Turati – Via Vittor Pisani – Piazzale Duca d’Aosta (Central Station).  The police will monitor this event and expect up to 15,000 participants.  They expect the demonstration to be generally peaceful; however, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.   Significant traffic delays in the vicinity of the protests are expected.

The U.S. Consulate General in Milan recommends that all U.S. citizens and their families avoid the areas of the demonstration and exercise caution if walking or driving in the vicinity of these events.
