During a reception on December 10, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Gwendolyn “Wendy” Green celebrated 24 women, who graduated from the U.S. Department of State’s Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE). The AWE program provides women entrepreneurs around the world with the skills, resources, and networks needed to start and scale successful businesses.
In 2021, the U.S. Embassy partnered with Women Directors in Malta (WDM) to implement this global entrepreneurship program for the first time in Malta. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a competition, pitching business plans they developed through the AWE training for funds to invest in their businesses.
Chargé Green presented the AWE graduates with certificates of participation and awarded $2,000 to the three seed funds winners. In brief remarks, Chargé Green said, “I am incredibly proud to bring this global entrepreneurship program to Malta for the first time. On behalf of the U.S. Department of State, I would like to congratulate you all. We are proud of your innovation and drive to follow your dreams.”
AWE supports the U.S. government-wide National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality aimed at advancing global women’s economic empowerment. The U.S. Embassy and WDM recognize the fundamental role that women play as engines of economic growth and development in healthy societies.
