In the lead up to a Papal visit to Malta, the U.S. Embassy in Malta facilitated training by the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) for Maltese security forces on event security and protective detail advance visits.
The Regional Security Office at the U.S. Embassy leveraged the Embassy’s Law Enforcement Working Group (LEWG) to provide training to Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) members and Maltese law enforcement. The LEWG is a collection of U.S. law enforcement agencies who partner with Maltese law enforcement in training and investigations of mutual interest, in support of the Embassy’s strategic goals.
Agents from the USSS Rome Field Office led the training, teaching OSAC and Maltese law enforcement how to conduct event security and protective detail advance visits. The USSS also trained the Malta Police Force’s Special Intervention Unit on close protection and motorcade operations.
Chargé d’Affaires Gwendolyn “Wendy” Green offered remarks at the opening of the training on February 24 at the Malta Police Training Facility. In her address, she explained, “The Malta Police Force and Malta Security Service are excellent partners to the U.S. Embassy. Their professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the safety of those in Malta is truly commendable. We hope that you not only learn from this training but enjoy it as well.”
